Rugby on Canadian TV: European Rugby Champions Cup

Last month we learned about the demise of most of the best of European rugby on Sportsnet World. Top 14 and Guiness Pro12 have vanished completely from Canadian TV (if I’m wrong, please let me know) and the Aviva Premiership is available through the little-known beIN Sports.

The unknown answer was the fate of European club rugby’s international competitions. The former Heineken Cup had been a staple of Sportsnet World’s lineup; its replacement, the Rugby Champions Cup, is still on the dial, in a familiar place.

Breathing calmly now?

This weekend’s schedule is Racing Metro vs Northampton at 9 a.m. PT on Saturday, followed by Leicester vs Ulster at 11:30 a.m. PT. Bath vs Glasgow will screen, delayed, at 11 p.m. PT. Sunday sees Toulouse vs Montpellier at 5 a.m. PT, Leinster vs Wasps at noon PT and Toulon vs Scarlets at 2 p.m. PT.

(There’s also the usual Rugby Championship coverage with New Zealand and Australia live at 2 a.m PT, with an afternoon repeat. The repeat broadcast follows the Currie Cup semi finals, which run back-to-back after the Leicester/Ulster game.)
